Imagen Beth vs. Imogen Beth vs. Imagine Beth

Hi there, having my first child - a little girl - and I love the name Imogen. I’m getting a lot of pressure from my MIL to be more ’creative’ and as she will (sadly) be this baby’s only grandparent I wondered if I could oblige her in some way? My friends often comment that Imogen sounds like Imagine. Beth was my mother’s name, my MIL’s name is Roisin. Thank you, Meg, Tom and baby girl.

I love the name Imogen, I wouldn’t change how it is spelt. You could call her Immie, Immy, Geanie, Gen, Mo, Moe, Im or anything so I would go crazy with a nick name instead. I would imagine her name on a name plate in a multi-million dollar business office, and think about what you would be thinking if you walked up to her desk and saw Imagine, or something crazy. I would be thinking "Did her parents not know how to spell?" Think about how it will grow on her instead of how cute it would be now.

This is your baby, so don’t feel pressured by your mother in law in any way. This decision is up to you and your partner alone. Input might be appreciated, but the choice is ultimately YOURS. If you love Imogen, GO FOR IT!

Imogen Beth is divine. I am not a fan of the name Roisin, but if you really wanted to honor her, perhaps a middle initial with R? Imogen Rose, Imogen Ruth, Imogen Rae...

Definitely use Beth for your mom. Imogen Beth is a great name. If you love it, go for it. It’s much more unique than a lot of other names.

I’m a huge John Lennon fan and Imagine is my all-time favorite song, but I don’t see this as a valid name for a child. It’s nice to honor your Mom with the name Beth. Imogen, while not my favorite name by a long shot, is at least a name. You and your husband get to name this baby, not your MIL. She will still love her, don’t worry. :)
