What can vs. I do?
My 19 year old sister is expecting a baby girl and recently announced the name she’s picked out: Pirate Arabelle Madasyn. My parents and other family and friends I have talked to all agree that the name is just plain ugly, as do I. What can we do to try to talk her out of it? What are some other names she might like? What about just using Arabelle Madison? It’s very pretty. Pirate... Uhm... Not a name. Arabella Madison would be pretty too. Good luck!

You could suggest Piper or Sailor. Not my favorites, but worlds better than Pirate. Good luck!

Ultimately you can’t do much, as it is your sisters responsibilty to name her baby. But you could definitely let her know that you think it’s a "little" ridiculous, and you would advise her against using it. Best of luck!

I like Arabelle/Arabella. It’s much better than Pirate(yikes). Here’s some alternatives to Pirate:

Brigantia( means strength. The name of a legendary goddess of springs. The word "brigand", a kind of pirate, comes from the same root.)

1.to talk her out of it you could come up with a nn she wont like and then start saying/ calling the baby that before she has it.
2.you could also just confront her about it. just say that you really think she should think of something else
3. drop hints by suggesting other names. and btw pirate is actually a boys name:/

Ask her to go and call it out at a park. If she doesn’t like it then, then she never will.

Don’t do anything.
1) it’s not your child.
2) it’s a great name. Unique, but maybe in ten years everyone will be calling their kids Pirate.
