Maile vs. Miley

I have a close friend named Maile (pronounced My-lee). It is a Hawaiian name, and I have always thought it is very pretty. Maile is the name of the vine that is used to make Hawaiian leis. My concern in using it for my daughter is the spelling. I know my friend has had to deal with her name being misspelled and mispronounced for the past 40 years, so I am considering an alternate spelling -- Miley. But...with the recent popularity of Miley Cyrus I am wondering if this may be too trendy. I would appreciate what others think. Also, if you have suggestions of a middle name, or a first name that goes with Miley as a mn, I am all ears!

I also prefer the spelling of Miley...you don’t have to worry about whether or not it is trendy, you just have to like it!

Besides, people haven’t stopped naming their kids Brittany, Lindsay, Christina, or any celebrity’s name just because they are famous for a living.

I think it’s your preference. If you don’t care about the Hawaiian origin and just like the sound of the name Miley will definately be easier. I have a friend named Maile and even though people mispronounce her name sometimes, it’s still her own.

My middle name is Maile, and when I was a child, I wanted it to be spelled like Miley because people kept calling it 'mail.' But as I grew older I realized that my middle name is beautiful.
