Edison vs. Harvard vs. Roosevelt
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU VOTE:
Okay my grandpa is 90 years old and not doing so well (has cancer)...He is an amazing man who was a Judge in NYC for many years and he is just a happy guy that lives life to the fullest. I want to honor him by choosing a middle name that isn’t his name but would in some way honor him. These are the choices I have come up with so far. My grandpas name is Eugene and he doesn’t have a middle name but in his family if I were to give my son the middle name Eugene while he is still alive the family would get very upset...they are Jewish not sure if it is a religious thing. Here are some ideas I have come up with...Honor grandpa by giving the baby a middle name that starts with the letter E...Edison is the name that keeps popping into my head. Thomas Edison was such an important person in our history. Roosevelt because my grandpa loved Franklin Delano Roosevelt (he was in WW II). The last one I thought of was Harvard because that is where my grandpa went to law school and he is very proud of it...he and his wife were poor had a couple of kids but he still managed to go to school and become a Judge in between his time spent in the World War II. Thank you so much for reading this. Please let me know which middle name you like the best. I will find a name that fits with it later. Thank you!

I like the name Justice or Justus too and would certainly honor a judge.
Harvard got my vote though
I like Edison best as a name, but when it comes to honouring your grandfather, something more related to him might make more sense. In that case, I like Roosevelt best. But since that connotation will be very strong, how about Franklin/Frank or Delano?
Thats a good suggestion thanks...I’ll think about Delano and Justice too.
My family is strange in the sense that they really don’t care what the name is E as long as it starts with the same letter as the person. I like Edison because it is different and in a way I would be honoring Thomas Edison too.
I love Edison, it is my father’s middle name.
Have you thought of asking your grandfather what name he might like.
Then not only will the child be named after him but named a name with his "blessing" or with his choice and input?
I’m scared of what he might come up with...he’s 90 years old and kind of losing it...half of the time he thinks I’m my mom or my 10 year old sister...long distance grandpa by the way...we live 1500 miles apt. but we have always been very close. We write all the time. He is a huge Hillary Clinton fan so I’m afraid he will want me to name the baby Clinton or something...not gonna happen =).
By the way my grandpas fathers name was Isadore...what if he suggests that name? I will ask him thought...that would be nice and probably kind of funny. He named his own son Ira Paul which was switched to Paul Ira by the time he was old enough to talk...Of course last name starts with an S so my dads initials are PIS...his parents weren’t too good on the name thing.
LOL... maybe grandpas choice would just make a good story to tell the baby later in life.
After reading all this I think Edison is the perfect choice for three reasons:
The E honors your grandpa
It’s named after an important person in history.
You seem to like it and be attached to the name, just my observation. gl:)
What about going whole hog and naming him Harvard Edison? Then you have an interesting name, and the middle name starts with the letter E
I’d go with your gut and use Edison. Very nice way to honor Gramps.
Thanks for all of your comments..I do appreciate all of your opinions and suggestions!
Can you let us knwo what you decide? You have me really curious.
Yeah sure...I kind of already have a first name picked out...I didn’t want to put it on here though because I have already decided and I don’t want any negative comments. I really like it so that is all that matters but I will definately post it when I decide. Thank you very much!
