Baby vs. Question

Hello- I know this is a name site, and it helped us name our daughter, Mia Renee. But now, we have a question about adoption. We have 3 kids: Jack Finley(6), Luke William(4), and Mia Renee(2). We really want another. My husband and I both have always wanted to adopt, and feel like this is the right time! We really want to adopt internationally, and have a few questions...First, if anyone has adopted internationally before, could you please tell us the pros and cons, how long it takes, what costs are involved, and WHERE you adopted from? Also, how old were your other children(if you had any) when you first adopted another child, and what were their reactions? Basically, we would like another parent’s P.O.V on international adoptions! Thank you all so much! ~The Mercer Family.

i have never adopted internationally, but i am planning on it as soon as i am more financially stable, i would say the pros are that you’re giving a child a home, taking them away from poverty, giving them better access to health care and education, and having them live in a more loving environment with a family, i would say that the cons are that you’re taking them away from everything they know, changing their culture and their language. it takes different amounts of time, depending on the country you wish to adopt from, and the country in which you reside, they all have different guidelines regarding international adoption, depending on their relationship with other countries. there are adoption fees, which vary from country to country, and depend on which adoption agency you use, some of these are waivered, or you might be given a grant, depending on the age or special needs of a child. i am planning on adopting my first from Asia, hopefully Hong Kong. i don’t have any other children. i would say that you need to start to do your research, think about what you want, age? gender? ethnicity? special needs? a very good website is rainbowkids.com, which is all about international adoption and there are also photo listings of waiting children, contact details of adoption agencies and lots of info to help you decide and get started. it is aimed at Americans though, so if you’re not, i’m not sure if you can use the agencies listed etc, because of the different regulations for different countries. i’m in England, and i haven’t actually started the process yet, so i don’t know whether i could use those agencies, but hopefully it will give you some helpful information and point you in the right direction wherever you’re from. good luck!
