I used to know a girl named Shiobhan and I know it is pronounced (Shih-vaughn)...I felt so sorry for her because our teacher would make fun of the spelling of her name everytime he would read it on roll call. He even wrote it on the board one time and asked everyone how they would pronounce it. I like the name..maybe spelled an easier way but I wouldn’t do that to your daugther because no one knows how to say it. The other name looks like Salomi to me...I like Charmaine spelled this way.

Siobhan (sh-vaughn) is a traditional Irish name. Not many of the uneducated American public will pronounce it right, but it is a gorgeous name. I like it best. Good luck!

I recognized the name Siobhan and would pronounce it shuh-VON or shih-VON. It’s not a common name at all, but it’s very pretty. And the pp that mentions a teacher making fun of that name makes me mad! Not at the poster, of course, but at that awful teacher. I had a teacher embarrass me in third grade because she called me Pen-eh-lope (like antelope) instead of Pen-el-o-pe, and made a big deal out of it when I corrected her. Silly, but you do remember those moments.
