Names vs. Not too vs. Anglosaxon
Hey everyone! So my background is hispanic and I want to give my son a name that is spanish but also won’t make him sound too foreign when he goes to school. Basically it has to be fairly neutral.
I like the name Joaquin but I am not sure if it meets those guidelines. Would you find it difficult to pronounce it? How would you pronounce it? Thanks for the help! -Sofi

I would pronounce it joe-ah-quin. Am I right? I kind of like it. You could use the nickname Joe or Quin.

Well, we want to have another J name for the middle name and then just call him J.J. But still in formal situations I don’t want a name that’s gonna make him stand out and be too out there. And it should be pronounced who-ah-KEEN:)

If that’s how your pronouncing it, then he’ll be correcting people every time someone tries to say his name. I’d find a name less ’foreign’ so it’ll be easier on him...that’s what you said you wanted.

I’d pronounce it Hwakeen. I don’t think it sounds too foreign, but it really depends on where you live in the country. People outside of areas with a strong hispanic presence might have a hard time with figuring out how it’s pronounced (unless they’re fans of the Phoenix brothers...)

i love it, but a lot of people won’t be able to pronounce it properly, why don’t you use it as the middle name and find a new name for the first name. i don’t see what Anglo Saxon has to do with Hispanic though, they’re totally different things.
