i’ve never heard of anyone named Ever, except in those teen novels that came out a while ago. I wouldn’t use it personally, what about Eve or Eva?

Yes, but Evynne is nice

Yes. I think it is, sorry. I think maybe Eve, Eva, or Evelyn might be a replacement...?

I know a girl with the name ’Eva’ who pronounes it Ever.

I don’t like Ever sounds too harsh but Forever and Eternity are nice options that have the same meaning

Evynne would also be a teen mom name, so don’t take her up on that suggestion. I also think Eve or Eva would work.

Why shouldn’t she use Forever or Eternity because they are a little outside the box right? Well not everyone can be a Jessica Danielle or Ashley Jennifer in this world and compared to Blue Ivy or Cree Taylor Forever is fine

Ever would be a thousand times better than Forever or Eternity which sound like stripper names.

Forever is trashy as is eternity. Evelyn Yvette (Evie) Yvonne (Evie) Evangeline, Evan, Vera are in that vein and far less trashier.

Imagine a lawyer called Eternity or Forever? Or a Doctor called Eternity of Forever? Doesn’t instil a great deal of confidence does it? Ever is better than either of them by a long shot, go for Ever over those suggestions!

I don’t feel sorry for Yasmin’s kids you know why? No matter where they go everyone says wow those are such unique names I wish I thought of that! Naming a child should be a chance to show off your uniqueness not play along with the rest! Like my soon to be daughter Nieve Amore I could’ve sat there and said I want her to be another Lucy Jane but what did my fiance and I do sat and thought awhile and said hey we love our girl don’t we so let Amore be her middle name and shes born in a winter month so why not Nieve which means snow in spainish and has a connection to winter

Nieve is very cute congrats Nicole.

As to the original question I think Ever is alright but it seems like the kind of name that may always attract clarification ... having grown up with a similar kind of name I can tell you that gets annoying but that’s up to you.

Ever, Eternity, Forever are all horrible names. One doesn’t have to stay in the "box" you can be creative and still not leave the child embarrassed by their parents choices.

Aiyana, possibly meaning "ever-blooming."
ERICKA: Variant spelling of English Erica, meaning "ever-ruler."
AMARA: Short form of Latin Amarantha, meaning "unfading."

You have some good suggestions - like Everett. You could also go with a name that has a similar meaning to forever.

Your child’s name is about them, not you. If you want a chance to show off your uniqueness, change your own name, draw a picture, or reflect it in your appearance. Don’t burden your child with some kr8ive name just to try to show how "cool" and "unique" you are.

I honestly do not see a problem with Ever as long as you make the middle name something half normal. I have heard a lot worse. I do believe Ever is the name Milla Jovovich called her daughter so it is a little celeb/trendy but its definitely not weird like Apple or Pilot Inspektor

But if the entire world was filled with Lucys Adams and Johns the world wouldn’t be such a fun interesting place to explore meet people and find out diffrent things now would it? Everyone would think John 1’s idea is the same as John 2’s sad isn’t it?

Nicole, that makes no sense. If you really think that everyone with the same name is essentially the same person, then you’re a moron.

Andy Warhol wasn’t interesting bc he had a crazy name. He was interesting bc of what he did, and he was no less of an artist bc he had a normal name. Ditto Jackson Pollock, Mary Cassat, etc. The world is full of people with normal names who do extraordinary things. Having a name like Lucy or John has never held anyone back from doing anything.

A name doesn’t make a person. Thomas Edison, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, all had ordinary names but accomplished great feats. When choosing a name one has to stop and considering does it age well, will the name be taken seriously and could you see this name on a nameplate in an office, on a door, possibly President. But this is MY thought process, every parent is different.
posted by VeteransWife27 :: 2012-06-27 10:42:05 | report
I didn\’t say normal names held you back I just said having a unique name is better because it shows that the parents put thought into and it makes the world more fun!

I’m not having a go at you Nicole but I think that is a massive generalisation and mistake you are making with the above. People name their kids names that you have mentioned above and insinuated as ’boring’ for many reasons. For instance my name is Jessica Grace. Jessica is after Jessica from the Merchant of Venice, which was the play my parents met at and Grace is after my grandmother. A lot of thought and meaning clearly went into my ’boring and average’ name.
posted by guest :: 2012-06-27 10:47:30 | report
The name Nieve is beautiful but my daughter has 2 Nieve’s in her cl[removed]o it’s not the most unique name. But I do love it. I think Ever is lovely but it may not age well but if you love it use it! It’s not a horrible name and it’s spelt right, I say go for it!!
posted by guest :: 2012-06-27 10:47:41 | report
So, parents who give their kids normal names don’t put thought into it? That’s insulting and judgmental, especially coming from someone who is so quick to complain that she’s judged for being a teen mom. You have no idea why people have chosen normal names for their kids, and those names may have just as much meaning to them as Nieve Amore has to you. I could have given my kids names like Diamond and Fork, but it wouldn’t have meant that I would have put any thought into them.
posted by guest :: 2012-06-27 10:48:18 | report
I just find common names not to have thought put into them I’m sorry but that’s my opinion. Everytime I hear a boring classic name it makes me mad and I think did you think about it or did you just pick something everyone’s sure to like

Better question: Is Ever a name?
posted by guest: guest :: 2012-06-27 11:11:27 | report
There are definitely unoriginal people out there who call their kids Emma Jane and Jacob Thomas because they are normal names that flow well and are easy to pronounce. However, there are also people out there who name their children Emma Jane and Jacob Thomas because ’Emma’ by Jane Austen may have been a pivotal book in their life or they admired Thomas Edison or were inspired by the biblical story of Jacob. I find this kind of inspiration far more meaningful than someone actively seeking an unusual name which means something similar to the month the child is due to be born in.
posted by guest :: 2012-06-27 11:13:59 | report
Every parent puts though into their child’s name! My daughters name is Isabella Marie Faith, it’s a normal, classic name but I put a lot Of though in to her name and there are reasons for her name. I think you are being very judgmental and rude. A classic name is not thoughtless.

Now for the poll, I do like Ever it’s lovely.

I think Nieve is pretty! It’s good to be unique, it’s not good to just start naming your kids random words.

How is Nieve pronounced? Like neev?
posted by guest :: 2012-06-27 11:16:14 | report
"Ever" would definitely be a teen mom thing. Same with "Forever" and "Eternity"; they are horrible choices, and show a lack of maturity.
posted by guest :: 2012-06-27 11:17:58 | report
Just because a name is common doesn’t mean that the parents picked it because everyone else likes it. It might have sentimental value or they think it sounds and looks pretty. For example, I know how popular the name Olivia is, but it’s my daughter’s middle name after my sister that passed away when I was 10. I guess everyone just has different opinions.

Ever is kind of teen momish I guess, I like the suggestion of Evangeline nn Ever, though.

posted by guest :: 2012-06-27 12:06:38 | report
Yeah, that’s called mispronouncing. This is the difference between calling your kid a word that means "snow" or "nine" depending on the pronunciation. Essentially what you are doing is naming your kid "snow" with the correct Spanish spelling, but when people who actually know Spanish go and say it correctly, you are going to go "Oh no, I say incorrectly, and pronounce it "Nine", and they are going to look at you like this: O_o
