What is so vs. terrible about the vs. name Hanorah?

My husband is very in love with this name and I also like it quite a bit. The last poll we did asking what people thought of it 58% of people hated it! My husband was like, "It’s not like we’re suggesting Helga or Bertha, what’s so wrong with it?" We do appreciate the alternatives people have suggested but if we go with this name we will keep it as Hanorah since we’d be doing it in honor of my ancestor from Ireland. So...does it just sound terrible? Look dumb? Your opinions will mean a lot, thanks!!

I didn’t see your poll. How do you pronounce Hanorah? Like it is spelled? If it is, I don’t see anything wrong with the name especially if you are honoring someone special in your life. If you like it, I would use it.

It’s pronounced Ha-nora, the first A being a "short A" my husband says, almost sounding like Huh-nora but not putting much emphasis on breaking it apart like that. It’s three syllables and our last name is Mosley.

my guess would be that it isnt a name heard often and as much as people "claim" to like unusual names they are afraid af truely unusual or unique names.

I think Hanorah is very pretty. Pronounced Han Or Ah if I am not mistaken.

Hanorah Jane
Hanorah Leanne
Hanorah Colleen
I also like the spelling Hanora.

Hanorah is really cute.. I like the pronunciation where it sounds like Hannah and Nora combined.

Hanorah Brielle
Hanorah Kristine

I love the sound of
Hanorah Gael
Hanorah Caitrione

Hanorah is fine I definitely don’t hate it but what about a variation:
Hannah
Nora
Anora * I kinda like that name
sounds a little bit like Menorah though (not sure the spelling of that) gl
I believe if you love the name (and it’s not too out there) Go for it!

I think it’s just really hard for people to pronounce. I actually thought it sounded arabic....but thought it was very pretty once I learned how to pronounce

I actually quite like Hanorah. I wouldn’t use it myself, but it’s not terrible.

Reminds me of a Menora...Jewish candle holder used for Hannukah celebration.

Hanorah is adorable. I can picture a curly haired lil toddler running around with that name quite easily.. I can also see it fitting a Teen and an Adult.

i like it and if the name has meaning to you and your faimly it will mean so much more to your child!!!
i do think people might have a hard time pronouncing it though, i had no idea until i read the posts, but i think if iots pronounced like hannah and nora combined its so pretty but not too pretty to sound odd on a teen or adult! a growing name!
best wishes for you and your faimly!

I think it does kind of look like a combination of Hannah and Nora, so you’re going to get a lot of people thinking you made it up, but you know you didn’t, so that’s what matters. The nickname Nora is pretty adorable, actually, if you decide to go with that. The bottom line is, if you like it enough, go for it. Other people can give their opinions, and those opinions can be helpful, especially if you’re torn between a few names, but in the end it’s your opinions that matter--and your baby’s I guess, but it’s a little hard to check with her at this point. ;)

Before your poll yesterday I had never heard of Hanorah. I had heard the Honoria though. And according to my baby book, Hanorah is right there with Honoria as being variants of the virtue name Honor. Personally I’m not a fan of the name, but if you guys like it - and it obviously has sentimental meaning behind it - then go for it!

Sorry, but I REALLY don’t like the name. I know you said it was the name of some ancestor, but its ugly and DOES sound like one of those made up names you hear now a days. I would stick with something more traditional like Hannah, Nora, or Honoria. All three of these are far prettier than Hanorah.

I too have several Irish Ancestors named Hanorah, the last of which became a nun after nursing school and founded a school of nursing that she directed for 34 years. It means honor and she wore it well, go for it.

That was my grans name. She. Thought it was funny she got called hangar as a kid. And. Nora. As a grown up.

I think people should stop just voting for the most popular fashionable names. Babies grow into humans not celebrity clones. :)
