Hannah, Hailey, and Sarah! Clara just sounds...very outdated and stodgy
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
Better to go with Paige, Anne is pretty, well, drab.

Hannah Paige / Clara Anne :)

I think Clara sounds fresh and elegant, and Anne sounds classic and sophisticated. Wouldn’t call either name outdated or drab!

Poster 5: I’m not trying to be rude! Poll poster, the As in Clara Anne run into each other. Might want to rethink that. Sorry, but Clara has not made a comeback. I honestly don’t think it will anytiome soon....but Hannah Paige, Sarah Paige, or Hailey Claire would be lovely! You could also go with Claire instead of Clara. Claire sounds so much more fresh and approachable than Clara

Clara is a classic! It’s never outdated! My friend just had her 4th baby girl and named her Clara. I’m happy the name is coming back! I completely agree with none of the names being outdated or drab. Anne is actually one of my favorite names and I love that you’re spelling it with an "e".

*Clara Anne*
Sarah Anne
Hayley Anne

Yes, Clara is a rather underused classic. That’s what I meant; no offense to the poll poster or anyone else

Hannah Paige or Clara Paige! Gorgeous :)

Clara HAS made a comeback! The poll poster can name her baby girl anything she wants.
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
That doesn’t mean she can’t accept or at least be attentive to advice. Despite Clara’s comeback, it is still hard to see this name on anyone but a grumpy old lady. Again, not trying to be mean, I’m just giving a pointer

I saw it on a beautiful little baby girl and the name suits her perfectly! You say you’re not trying to be mean. If that’s true, then, maybe you could use a pointer and try to find a nicer way to say things.

I adore the name Clara and I think Clara Anne is gorgeous. Clara will age very well. I’ve met a some Claras who are younger than 50 and most of them were under 10 when I met them.
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
Claire is an okay name, but it’s more plain and dull than Clara.
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
"Lizi", no one is insulting your aunt’s name! I just warned the pollster that some names may be problematic b/c they are rather underused and have only recently returned. When a name is in such a state, then stereotypes like "old and stodgy" may prevail
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
Anne was never underused, though. I’ve been hearing it my whole life. I hear a lot of people are naming their children old-fashioned names. The old-fashioned names are definitely making a comeback around here. My friend had a baby named Lena. She loves old-fashioned names. Would you consider Lena being old and stodgy because it’s old-fashioned? Just curious, why did you put "" around my name?
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
Yeah, Anne was rather overused for a while. Maybe Lena would be stodgy, but the pollster should be aware of the consequences of Clara and Anne
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
So far, my friend hasn’t received any unkind comments about Lena’s name. Everyone keeps telling her how beautiful it is.
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
Even Clara’s mother keeps getting compliments on her baby’s name.

Clara is a beautiful name, and is making a comeback in the US at least. It’s been moving up the charts since the late ’90s. I’m not sure what "consequences" the pp is talking about.
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
You may not have heard any unkind comments-they could just be saying what the bearer wants to hear
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
Consequences like a dull image

Accroding to who? You? Just because you find it dull doesn’t mean other do.

Others may find it dull....better to be proactive instead of reactive
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
Not everyone will like the name you pick. I’m sure some people would find some of your chooses dull too.
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
If several people find it plain or there are vehement warnings about it, then it’s probably time to rethink

posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
That’s the thing you are the only one who has said Clara is dull, so, obviously you are in the minority. It sounds like a personal problem to me.
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
Yeah, but I am vehement!
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
Because you don’t like the name it shouldn’t be use by other people? Wow, you sure think a lot of yourself.....
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
Clara is beautiful!!!!
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
Get over yourself ADedicatedNameologist! Obviously the op and several other people like the name Clara.
posted by guest :: 11 years ago | report
Well, of this poll, Hannah, Paige, and Sarah are better than Clara or Anne
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
And Hailey is better, too
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report

I;m very passionate in everything I do, not mean!
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
So I’m sorry if I sounded hurtful-I send my deepest apologies!
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
I agree that Clarissa is pretty and I agree that one person CAN make a difference. It is true, though, that a majority of us like Clara and find nothing wrong with it. It’s an underused classic so, if more people started using it, it wouldn’t be underused anymore. I’m glad that more people are starting to use it and even consider it.
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
I’m not being overbearing-just helpful! And vehement!
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
People should be passionate in what they do. I’m passionate about names, cooking/baking, raising my family, and other things, too. I accept your apology and I really think we should just stop the argument. People don’t create polls for others to argue on. We should have ended the argument a long time ago. I’m sorry I didn’t suggest this earlier.
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
Amen!
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
Ah! Thanks, Lizi! Are you the poll poster?
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
No. I’m not the poll poster for this poll. I am for a different one.
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
If I was the poll poster for this one, I wouldn’t want people arguing on it. We should start considering poll posters’ feelings before we start arguing on their polls. I really should have said this earlier!
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
Well, I wasn’t aware that I sounded rude, so I’m sorry. VERY!
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
I have to admit that I, too, sometimes struggle with finding a nice way to say things. If I can’t find a nice way to say it, I worry about until I do or I don’t say anything. Apology accepted. I hope I didn’t sound rude to you and if I did, I’m sorry about that, too.

Trust me, it’s okay. Having ASD makes social activities SO HARD....
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
How does having ASD make social activities hard?
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
ASD stands for autism spectrum disorders
posted by ADedicatedNameologist! :: 11 years ago | report
Oh. You’re autistic. I looked it up and what my search came up with was a congenital heart defect called an atrial septic defect.
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
I mean *septal defect. Oops!
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
I can understand how autism can make social life hard.
posted by Lizi :: 11 years ago | report
Yeah, I know about the heart defect, too...it’s creepy!!
