nickname vs. help

Hi. I’m due next month. DH and I were sent on GabriellA, but now we are naming her GabriellE. However, I really don’t like Gabby. Elle, ellie etc. is okay. I really like the name in full. I’m thinking this is going to be too stressful. I hear Gabby all the time. What do u suggest. DH isn’t as concerned. He doesn’t like Gabby either.

You can always name her Gabrielle and as for a nickname go with her middle name. My sisters name Gabriel(she hates its not Gabriella its pronounced the masculine way) so she goes by her middle name and always has. Or you can call her Brie.

If you need a nickname, then go with something that comes after she’s born. It will fall into place. If you don’t want one, don’t have one. I don’t like nicknames for some names (ie: Christopher, Zachary, Benjamin, Nicholas, Alexander, etc. I like boys names better than girls, I think.) and I just call my family and friends included by their full first names. Just call her Gabriella/Gabrielle. My cousin’s name is Gabriella and she goes by Bella.

If you like the full name, call her Gabrielle. My son is named Nicholas and when I was pregnant everyone said he’s going to be called Nick, and he’s almost 3 now, and we all call him Nicholas, I had to tell a few people No, it’s Nicholas, but after that it stuck!

I think if you decide to use a nickname then whatever nick you choose is what people will call her.. Gabrielle.. introduce her as Gabrielle and we call her Ellie.. or introduce her by her nickname and others will follow suit. you might run into a few you have to correct but it isnt that difficult.
My son Matthew has always been Matthew and he is 21 almost. he has a couple friends that call him MJ with his permission.

I agree with the pp. Just use her full name, and people will follow suit. Or if you really want for her to have a nn, make sure that you start out using Bree, or Ellie, or whatever you prefer.

My 8 month old granddaughter’s name is Victoria Alexis. There was a lot of talk about nns before she was born, as in: Vickie, Tori, Lexi. But now that she is here, so far, she is Victoria. No one really feels a need for her to be anything else. As she grows up, her friends may change that, but she’s a Victoria to all of us.
