Aide Sinead vs. Aine Sinead vs. Adele Sinead

Hello, my father was Irish and he died at the beginning of this year. I have always wanted to name a future child after him in his honour, but his name was Aiden and I am pregnant with a girl. I like the name Aide (pronounced AY-duh). This is very similar to his name but is more girly. I like Irish names in general, as I am Irish. I also like Aine (pronounced Awn-yuh) and Adele, which is not Irish but is similar to my father’s name. The middle name will be Sinead (pronounced Shuh-NAYd). Please help or give suggestions.

Aide is perfect. I think that you’ll have difficulties with pronunciation and spelling with anything other than Adele, though. I just like Aide.

I’d flip the names to Sinead Aide. That way your daughter has her own identity and is still named after your dad.

Ada is another way to spell Aide and you wont get the mispronunciations.. and misspellings.
A Duh = Ada
or
Eye Duh = Ida

I agree that Sinéad should be the first name and Aide be given as a last name. It’s nice that you want to honor your dad, but Aide is better suited as a middle name. It’s important that your daughter has her own identity.

meant *middle name, not "last name"

I personally would name her Aiden. It is being used by both genders, and the name is beautiful.

Ayden would be beautiful

If she’s Irish, she would know better then to pull such a pathetic American flip from boy to girl on a name that is male dominated. Trully, would you want your daughter given the #1 boy name (and it’s been #1 since 2005) and have her go through life with that? I should hope not. And if you did, I guarantee she changes her name on her 18th birthday. Then your attempt at honoring a special person gets ruined.

Aida Sinead Ward-farrell would be my choice.

I think Aiden as a fn is a horrible idea. Just think about her mom? How would you feel if people were talking about your future grand-daughter and the name was that of your husband? I don’t know about you, but I would be so grief stricken (especially of he just died a few months ago) every time I’d be constantly brought to tears.
I wouldn’t do that to your mom.
Sinéad Aide/Aida would be my picks.

Lucy brings up a very valid point. Based on that, I switch my vote to flipping the name. Sinéad Aide would probably be better. And as pp mentioned, this way she’ll also have her own identity and you can still honor your dad.

I don’t agree that Sinead should be the first name. I think Aide is perfect and honors your father very well. It’s a beautiful name and a wonderful culture. Go with it.
