Yes I would say that would be confusing to the kids. What about Devin or Dylan or Lachlan? They are similar to Declan without it actually being Declan.

My husband’s brother has a son named Devin and Lachlan we don’t like and Dylan we are not so sure about.

Yes way to weird, I had a fit when a first cousin used my daughters name. What about Deacon, that is Reese Witherspoons sons name. Landon and Hudson are also cute newer boys names.

Desmond, Eamon, Colm, Clooney, Cronan, Conan, Cael/Kale, and Daire are some other uncommon irish style names you may like. Two cousins named Declan is too odd.

Of course it’s weird. Otherwise you wouldn’t be asking. If you love it, then use it as a middle name, but basically your brother beat you to it.

It would be weird to call your son the same name as your nephew/ his cousin. But if you really love it or it has a especial meaning for you, you could use it as a mn. There are many families in which its members share the same mn, and I think that’s fine.
