Julian Cole vs. Jude ? vs. Judah ?

I was thinking of using the name Julian Cole Howe and calling him Jude but these are my problems: (A) I don’t know if Jude is too much of a stretch for a nickname when the actual name is Julian and (B) my sister doesn’t want me to use Cole because it’s the name she wanted to use for her son should she have one. I didn’t know this when I picked the name out, also she is not pregnant and doesn’t think she ever wants kids. So, I’m not TOTALLY against still using it, but I would rather find an alternative and just avoid the issue. I’m considering just using the name Jude and finding a new middle name that will go well with that but I can’t think of anything. I like the idea of the middle name starting with D so the initials will be JDH which makes me think "Judah" which is where Jude comes from. As far as that goes I’m not opposed to using Judah as the first name either if anyone knows a middle name to go with that. Please help!

I think you should go with Julian Cole no matter how your sister feels about the name. It’s not like your child will be using the name Cole and its only a middle name. Plus, with the uncertainity she has about being a mother, she may never even use the name or she may never even have a son. I reckon if you like/love the name just go with it, she’d be acting really childish if she threw her toys out the pram over a name cause at the end of the day you’re not using it as a first name.

That’s a lot of suggestions to take in! I’m surprized no one voted for Jude (the one vote was from me) . I put another poll up on another site and Jude is winning followed by Julian and I got a lot of negative comments about Judah. My husband likes Julian best personally so his vote obviously carries a lot of weight. I like the suggestion of using Cale instead of Cole, I honestly never thought of that! I think Julian Cale sounds just as good as Julian Cole. Although now that I’ve talked to my sister directly she says she’s fine with me using Cole as a middle name....before I was just going on what my mom said about how I shouldn’t do her that way since she had already said she wanted to use it (after I picked it though...she didn’t know I was considering it).

As far as the suggestions here I really like Jude Davis. I had someone else suggest that, I really like it. I also like Milo and there’s something about Judah Zion that seems really freakin cool to me.....not that those start with D, lol.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions so far. =)

I think Jude or Judah are way more masculine than Julian. Julian sounds wimpy to me. Jude Davis is very nice. As for Jude Cole, it is OK since you aren’t using it as a first name. If your sister does have a boy someday she can still use Cole and the cousins will have this bond with the name (but they won’t both be called the same name since your son will be Jude). Good luck!
