Aidan is the original, and actually a biblical (or maybe just a saint’s name). However, ironically the Aiden spelling is more common. I personally dislike the name and think that the fact more people choose to spell the name wrong than right shows that it’s become rather low class. I know you didn’t ask for all that but just trying to help!

The original spelling is Aidan, even though 2 of my good friends have sons named Aiden. It’s too trendy for my taste.

The actual original form of Aidan is Aodhán. It’s Gaelic for "little fire". The most common Anglicized version of the name is Aidan, followed closely by Aiden.
St Aidan was the founder of the monastery of Lindisfarne in north England. He is credited with the restoration of Christianity to Northumbria.
Ayden is a trendy variant only seen within the last 10 yrs or so.
With variants like Aiden, Ayden, Aydan, and Aden, Aidan was the most popular name for boys in the U.S. in 2006.

this name is way overused....there are a million Aidens out there.
