Sam.... vs. ?

Hi! We are expecting our first baby, a boy! We love uncommon, cool names. We have a list of ones we found that we love. But, I heard the common name, Sam. I love it. It’s simple, but I think it’s cute. What do you think of it? Is it too common, usual, and boring? If not, can we use it alone or should we use it as a nickname? What full names (besides Samuel) could we use? Thanks so much!

I rarely hear the name Sam anymore. It’s well known but how used is it?

I think it’s really cute on its own. Just Sam. Or Samwise, Samson.

My son is 12. His name is Samuel, but he is always called Sam. Starting in kindergarten through sixth grade he has been the only Sam in the school!

I love Sam, but I think it is better as a nickname. Samuel is a great name, and Samson is an uncommon alternative that you could use. Samson is actually a favorite of mine. I don’t think either of them are too common right now, since people are naming their kids ridiculous things these days.
