Thoughts on the name vs. Olivia?

I am nearly 8 months along and my husband and I haven’t decided on a name for our baby girl yet. We love the name Olivia but is it too common? What about Liv or Livia as a nickname? Opinions and MN suggestions would be lovely! Thank you. ~Anna

For me personally I’m not sure I could go with a name that was that popular but I have to admit that there’s a reason it’s so popular. It IS a lovely name! So I guess you have to decide if that bothers you or not.

Olivia is a beautiful choice! It may be popular, but like the first poster said there is a reason why! I say go for it! I love Olivia Kate and Olivia Claire. GL

I myself wouldn’t use it. While it is a classic sophisticated name it is just soooooo over popular right now. But some ppl love over popular names and some just dont. It comes down to personal preference really. There’s nothing but that wrong with the name itself.

I’m pretty tired of it myself. Even the greatest name can be ruined by overuse, unfortunately. Plus, I don’t think many kids enjoy being one of many with the same name at school.

I love Olivia! You could use Alivia which is less common. I would use the name anyway, if you like it. Middle names

I think we’ll end up trying to think of other names, and go with Olivia Cate/Kate if we can’t think of others we like more. We love Olivia and think its beautiful, but it IS a tad overused at the moment. Maybe in the future...

We would use Alivia, except my husband thinks it sounds like medicine.

I did a poll awhile back and the same answer was on nearly every response. People hated it when they shared their name with a lot of other kids and they hated their name if it was wacky and spelled odd. The people that answered the poll who were happy with their names are ones that had classic, uncommon names. Ones that were easily spelled and well known but not commonly used.

My name is Olivia. I’m in high school and I know about 2 other Olivia’s. I find it really annoying.
