When you say you want a musical name, do you mean like the name of a famous drummer or band, or a musical term (i.e. Lennon vs. Rhythm)
posted by Lori :: 9 years ago | report
I really don’t know...I was just looking for ideas. I don’t want to name him something really weird or anything just music related. Thanks for your suggestions.

If you’re husband is a drummer why don’t you just name your son after him?
posted by Sara :: 9 years ago | report
Ok. Yeah some of the suggestions are a little strange. How about Bongo?:) Haha. Just joking. I’ll try to think of some music-related but not so "out-there" suggestions . . .
Jubal (he is the first recorded musician in the Bible; I actually know a little boy named this; it’s kinda cute:))
Tom (part of a drum)
If I think of any more, I’ll let you know . . .

Here’s a list I left on another poll. Of course, not all of them are music related. I’m just too lazy to take them off. Sorry.

Apollo - Roman and Greek god of music
Sawyer (after a Rush song, perhaps?)

Some percussion ones:
Steel (drums)
Cavalier - name of a DCI band
Travis (Barker)
Carter (Beauford)
Neil (Peart)

my daughters name is Harmony - we have been trying to think of a boys musical name that we can agree on. I see above someone called there daughter Lyric - but I like Lyric as a boys name - I believe it can be unisex? Anyone have any other male music names as additional ideas? Also had Lennon as a boys name for a while- but I think Lyric is abit more different. Thanku.

My sons’ names are Rhythm, Anthem (and due April 11) Coda... We had planned on naming the baby Aria until we found out he was another boy.
posted by ShadowVoice :: 7 years ago | report
Oh yes and we’ve considered Chorus as a boy’s name as well... Rhythm’s father was a drummer and Anthem came out proudly showing off what his lungs could do. Coda is my son from a new relationship- it signifies an ending piece and may display a whole new section of music as well. He is our new beginning at the end of an old song, a segue (which could also make a great name) into a new life...

My daughters names are Aria and Harper and we are pregnant with number 3 and hoping we’re having a boy and kind of want to keep to the musical naming. But it’s way tougher for a boy. Good luck.

My daughter’s name is Piper Elise. Piper meaning "flute player" and Elise from "Fur Elise". We are planning on keeping the musical theme going. We like the names Lyric and Sebastian(Seb) for boys. For girls we like Cadence(Cadie)and Harper.

I am looking for a musical name for my first child! I am a flute player and an 8th grade music teacher. Music is such a big part of My life and i really want my child to have a musical name. I am three months pregnant and My husband and I had our names set on Aria for a girl (loved this name all my life) and Cayden (after cadence) if it is a boy. A friend just had a baby girl last month and named her Aria! She didint even know it was s misical name! she hear myself and another friend talking about an Aria in an opera and decided she liked it so she stole my name! I don’t love any other girls name as much. I loved Aria because it was musical but not in a way that would be too obvious. It was just so perfect and now I don\’t know what to name our little one if it is a girl. This is our first child. Any suggestions for musical girl names? Some sort of name that is related to music thanks!

hi all, I was also looking for musical names, we have lots of other jazz players that have awesome and weird names like Otis, Cole, Coltrane, Sinatra, Billie, Ella, Django, Mingus, Wes, Tholonious, Monk, Vaughan, I personally dont like Miles, but Miles, then you have names like Fender that I like as well, adagio has a nice meaning and is very very original. Avoid de axels and bobs or lennons, or harmonys, it\’s like the popular top EMMA but for people who like music

Orpheus was a poet who could entrance wild beasts with the beauty of his singing and lyre playing. He went to the underworld after the death of his wife Eurydice and secured her release from the dead, but lost her because he failed to obey the condition that he must not look back at her until they had reached the world of the living. (sounds musical to me... just saying)

Rhythm (love this, especially for a drummer’s kid)
Octavia (octave)

Crescendo (Cress)

Also maybe put the music name as a middle name and use a more traditional name as a first name.

Marcato (short form: Marc.) (Italian for marked) is a musical instruction indicating a note, chord, or passage is to be played louder or more forcefully than surrounding music.
