Baby Brother vs. Needs A vs. Name!

Hey mommies and soon-to-be-mommies! My husband and I are expecting our third child and we seriously need your help with his name. Our problem is we simply cannot find anything we love and my due date is rapidly approaching! What names do you think would sound nice with our children’s names, Alessandra and Sebastian? Thank you so very much!

We like Theodore a lot, but worry about it being shortened; Alessandra and Sebastian don’t have nicknames and we’d like to keep it the same with this little boy. We do not need girl names; I thought I was kind of obvious with saying "brother" in the poll; but I guess I didn’t flat out say it

We like Theodore and Nathaniel a lot, but as above (which you didn’t see since your post came first!), we are worried about them being shortened. Harrison is also really nice, but we have a family member named Harry

We like Oliver a lot; we also like Rowan but we have a family member named Rowan. Again, we do not need girl names. We are having a BOY.

We like Miles a lot; we also like Henry a lot but it’s too close to Harry. Please STOP suggesting girl names; I have stated multiple times now we are having a BOY.

We like Miles, Dalton, Owen, Noah, and Oliver a lot; we also like Asher but would rather not use an A name so Sebastian wouldn’t be the odd one (or the other way around). Our only concern with a few of them is that they seem out of place next to Alessandra and Sebastian

I suggested Xavier or Zavier.

I really like Solomon, with siblings Alessandra and Sebastain. Good luck!

We like Samuel but would rather not use a S name so Alessandra wouldn’t be the odd one (or the other way around with an A)

We don’t like Xavier or Zavier and Solomon has always reminded me of "salmon" (not sure why though) and again, we’d rather not use the letter S so Alessandra wouldn’t be the odd one (or the other way with an A name)

We don’t like those names; they aren’t really what we think of using for our child.

Currently, our favorites are Theodore (still have concerns about the nickname issue however) and Oliver! We like Miles, Dalton, Owen, and Noah as well but we don’t really feel they fit as well with Alessandra and Sebastian

We like Thaddeus a lot; but we have concerns about it with the nickname issue as well.

William would have been a name we used; until my brother-in-law and his wife named their son William!

Theodore works wonderfully. Just correct people when they use nicknames. In the end I guess it depends on whether your child wants their name to be shortened or not. I can’t see Theodore being shortened any more often than Alessandra or Sebastian. GL

I’m not sure why you think there aren’t nicknames for your other children’s names. Alessandra could easily go by the nickname Aless, Sandra or Lessy. Sebastian could be called Ian, Bastian or Bash. I wouldn’t shy away from a name because of the possibility of a nickname. My name is Jacqueline and everyone calls me Jacqueline.

I believe you misunderstood my comment. When I said Alessandra and Sebastian don’t have nicknames; I don’t mean that the names literally do not have any. We know that there are nicknames; however they do not GO by nicknames. They are always Alessandra and Sebastian.

My son’s name is Benjamin and I always call him Benjamin. Unfortunately, I am one of the few people that do. I think so long as you call him e.g. Theodore the people who matter to you will do the same. Unfortunately you cannot control everyone else

How about....

Lazarus
Lincoln
Lucas-not to be shortened to Luke, unless you like Luke better!
Gabriel-not Gabe!
Geoffrey-not Geoff
George- can’t really be shortened

I have a friend that has a son named Jonathan and she was worried about him being called Jon but she never calls him that nor does any of their family so no one else does either. He is called Jonathan by everyone.

I commend you on keeping your other children’s names long, as you have given them. Just do the same with Theodore! Because there are a lot of nicknames that your other children could be called, especially Alessandra. Sebastain-not so much but there are a few. I know I tried for the longest time to keep my kids from having the nicknames that are common with their longer names. I gave up when my son told me in 1st grade he wanted to be called Nick, not Nicholas. Good luck in finding a not so easy to shorten name for your little man!
