Charles vs. yes vs. no

Hi! My husband and I are expecting our second child— a boy. We both really love Charles and wanted to know the meaning. We have a daughter, Caroline Victoria, who is three. Well, stated under the meaning of Charles was all of the other forms of Charles. It turns out that Caroline is the feminine form of Charles. Is it okay to name our son Charles if we have a daughter named Caroline? His middle name would be Matthew, after my husband and would go by Charlie. Thanks for helping! ~Tori, Matthew, and Caroline Higgins

Yes, I think it would be fine. Names with the same meaning sound good together typically and Charles and Caroline are no exception. They sound lovely together and this gives them a tie. Are you planning on having more children? If so, I’d look into other names that are similar so that your third (or more) child feels included. Hope this helps and I wish you all the best!

Thanks so much! My husband and I both want four kids so maybe we could find two other names that have a tie as well :)

No problem :) I’m a planner myself so I thought to tell you so that you’re not in a scramble when your third or fourth child is on the way!

I think it’s perfectly fine! Caroline may be the feminine form of Charles, but they don’t sound or look that much alike. It would be a different story with Alexander & Alexandra, George & Georgia, or Victor & Victoria...but Caroline & Charles are definitely okay together!

Charles and Caroline are beautiful names and there’s nothing wrong with them. Now, if your daughter’s name was Charlotte, it’d be different.
