honestly when I first saw this name I pronounced it see-anna... if that makes sence, not shawna. Its a pretty name either way but maybe that could be something you consider, just saying. :)

I totally agree about the spelling. If you just go with Shawna, she won’t have to correct people her entire life.
As for middle name, Shawna Yvonne is too close to being a rhyme.

We are naming her after my husbands brother Sean, so the spelling stays but thank you all for your opinions. And to poster 4, that is very uncalled for and rude! I believe people use far worse names than Seanna, so next time please keep your comments to yourself. Thanks! Ariella

Seanna should be pronounced See-anna. Consider spelling it Shawna. It would still be honoring your brother-in-law, but just be a more feminine spelling. Or you could pronounce Seanna the proper way, but the spelling would still be honoring Sean.

I agree with the last poster, and everyone else... looks like See-anna which would be a very pretty name. She’ll probably eventually start going by that anyway, to avoid having to correct people all the time. I had a friend with a name like that, and the only people who pronounced it the wrong looking way were her family. Not trying to be rude at all, just something to think about.

I also pronounced it Se-anna and it wasnt until I read the description that i got Shawna. I have to agree that you should either use the spelling Seanna and pronounce it Se-anna or spell it Shawna if you truly want the Sean pronounciation. I happen to like Se-anna a bit better. GL

So, this is funny! I actually polled the name Seanna (a couple of weeks ago tops) and stated that we would be pronouncing it Sea-anna. I polled to see exactly how others would pronounce the name and almost everyone said their first thought was Shawna.. and now here you are getting the complete opposite. I say, if you like it go for it.

My name is Seanna and pronounced Shawna pricing in Irish language. There should be a fada over the first a so it is correctly pronounced. I love my name but must confess I\’ve been called Sea-Anna most of my life. It\’s mad how everyone cam read Sean but can\’t read the feminine version that means Jane. God bless and good luck x
