Please don’t use Adolf, because of Adolf Hitler

We obviously don’t like the major negative connotations of the name, but can a name really never be used again because of one man?? We really do love the name, we think it’s cute.

Poster 2 - just what I was thinking. A little presumptuous and insulting to those of us of Jewish ancestry. Even intentional or not.

Don’t use Adolf, he’ll get bullied. Use it as a middle name instead, I like the name just it’s obviously a major negative connotation. What about Benjamin Adolf?

Eee, I think I’d stay away from Adolf for...obvious reasons. It’s a shame; I actually really like this name, it’s just the negative connotations really muck it up. Maybe go for Adolphus or Adolfo. They’re cutting it close, but at least they aren’t the exact name. Or maybe make it a middle name. Benjamin Adolf sounds nice.

Joe has Jewish ancestry. And it is not our intention to offend anyone with our name choice. But as I said it we really love the name and don’t think it should never be used again because of one man. (We also have another son named Leo Jackson if that helps your decision).

If a name has -such- negative connotations as Adolf - I wouldn’t use it to not be inconsiderate of what the name reminds some people. Every time I see or hear the name, it reminds me of my relatives that suffered so much - their stories I’ve heard. I agree that it’s not a bad name - but the associations completely ruin it. I would be considering of other people’s opinions, associations, etc. of the name before naming. I would hate to use a name that others would find insulting or abhorring due to its history. Please reconsider - or use it as a middle name if you’re -really- fond of it. GL!

We might use it as a middle name. Maybe it would be better. But right now, we need a middle name for it as a first name.

The world is not ready for Adolf to be used again, even if you personally are. Sorry, I know it sucks that one evil man has ruined the name as I agree that it is a nice name.

I actually like the name, but I would not use it, just because he will go to school someday, and they do teach about Adolf Hitler in school. He will be an easy target for teasing. And please don’t use the excuse that he will get teased no matter what, cause that just isn’t true. I went to school with plenty of kids that didn’t get teased at all. A name is the first thing people know about you, besides how you look, and to those kids that have too much time on their hands, they will take full advantage of the name Adolf as a target for teasing.

There will always be people who will be offended by your choice to name your son Adolf. I think that it is a nice name, as well. Yes, the connotation is not the best, but for cripes sake, it is simply a name, it is not as if you are paying homage to Adolf Hitler. There are many older men named Adolf. A name is a name.

Yeah, like I said, it’s a major shame. Honestly, I think Lucifer would also be a cool name if it weren’t for the fact it’s literally the name of Satan. Adolf is just one of those names that can’t shake the associations. Maybe one day it will, but I think it’s still too soon.

Maybe we should make it a middle name. Good point, they do teach it in schools...which of the middle names do you think goes best with Leo then? We also like Lucas and Cory.

We like Ryan, but can’t use it. We also like Randolph alot.

How about Benjamin Randolph, Lucas Randolph, or Justin Randolph? I think changing the name but using elements that you like would be a good compromise, and ensure that your son won’t be subject to constant teasing and ill thoughts or connotations. Best of luck!

People will assume that you are Nazi sympathizers. Don’t get mad when your family and your child receive insults or physical assaults.
