Stepdaughter vs. Has same name vs. As my daughter

Hi, I’m Peyton and my fiancée is Sam. We are expecting our first baby together. So we need a name that goes with our kids names, gender unknown. My kids are Sophia Paige (15) and Cody Luke (13). His kids are Thomas James nn Tommy (11), Piper Jane and Aria June (5) and Sophia Leigh nn Sophie (3). As you can see besides needing a name, we have two girls named Sophia. We need to know if we should change her name or let her go by her middle name. Sophie spends the week days with us and my Sophia lives with us, since my husband passed. So what should we do and name suggestions. Thank a bunch- Peyton and Sam

First of all I think that the name Mason James or Savannah Jane would go well with your kids names. And I think you should let Sophie go by either her middle name or a nickname because she is only 3 and it might confuse her if you start calling her something else . GL x

Well, first of all, you can’t change little Sophia’s name without permission and input from her mother. Is big Sophia against going by Paige? If she is, I suggest you call Sophie Leigh at home, or ask her if there is a name she wants to go by. I never thought about this, but what a weird situation you’re in. I’m sure this has happened to others who are marrying with children of their own all ready. Maybe try googling it, and see what others have done. Good luck!

you should let her choose

you could always just call Sophia Paige, Sophia and Sophia Leigh, Sophie.

Since Sophia is 15, we wanted to change Sophie’s name since she has been called Sophia less being that she is 3. We don’t need the mothers permission, being that she is not involved in their lives or care about them (she is a drunk). When they go to see her on weekends, they stay with the grandmother and the mother may visit them. We think me may call her Leigh, she just turned 3. We like Savanna but we have a s already. Mason is a close cousin so that isn’t an option

Call one Sophia and the other Sophie.

You could swap her first and middle - if she’s okay with it. Or ask her if she’d like to pick out a name for herself? Or if Sophia Leigh goes by Sophie most times and Sophia Paige goes by Sophia - then it’d be fine. I have twin younger sisters named Kayla and Kaylee - it’s no big deal that their names are so similar (occasionally confusing for family members and friends). You could also call Sophia Leigh by her nick name and middle at the same time - Sophie-Leigh. It would reduce any confusion.

As for name suggestions for your baby on the way, here’s mine:

Girl -- Ava, Charlotte, Megan, Brooke, Kelly, Riley, Remy, Sandy, Gina, Claire, Julia, Flora, Ruby, Heather, Savannah.

Boy -- Noah, Mason, Miles, George, Benjamin, Isaac, Logan, Vincent, Daniel, Chase.

GL!

We think having a Sophia and Sophie in the house is confusing. We don’t want that. Thanks though

I\’d suggest leaving Sophia as her given name and finding a nickname that suits her
and that she could logically use at school/work. Like how Miley Cyrus\’s actual name is Destiny, but she\’s called Miley because her nickname was Smiley. Something like that. I don\’t think it\’s fair to either kid to change their name, but since your is 15 and his Sophia is only 3...a nickname would suit her well.

Sarah, Caroline (Carrie or Carly), Annabeth
Benjamin, Liam, Riley, Caleb
