How do i vs. Convince my Brother

Here is the deal. My brother just had a little boy yesterday. Because of complications with the birth, baby boy’s mom did not make it through the night. Also because of everything that was going on, they didn’t have a name picked out. Even though this is a rough time for everyone, my brother is picking an obscene name, Battery Christopher Jansen. I feel that it is a horrible name, but I want to go about it gently by maybe coming up with similar names. Help please?

Is a difficult situation, best of luck.

First of all so sorry for the loss. Prayers to your family. Battery? Is he joking. That is not a name for a baby. Thats awful! He will get teased his whole life. Christopher is nice.

Maybe Christopher as first name.

First find out; has the name got a special significance with the mother? I agree, it’s not the nicest of choices. However if this was the mother’s wish for her son to be named this, I feel this should be carried out. I’m sorry for all your loss.

So sorry! How about Brock?
Brett, Brent, Brooks, Brendan? Jethro?

He’s probably in shock. Have him wait to name the baby until he’s 100% sure.

No, it was not the mother’s wish. They had talked about name, but this is the first I have heard of Battery. Christopher can not be a first name, as that is my brother’s name. Thank you guys for your help. I just don’t know how to tell him nicely that it isn’t a name for a child. Especially since he is really on edge right now. (rightfully so) - POll Poster

Im so sorry. My aunt died giving birth too. What was the mothers name? Maybe we can find a alternative of the name. I agree see if there is any signifcance and if there is, maybe use it as a middle name? Sorry again

I’m sorry for your loss! Maybe you can suggest switching the first and middles? I know Battery is really bad, even as a middle, but it’s better than his teachers always getting to his name on the roster and saying, "There has to be a mistake. Who’s... Battery?" and all of his friends laughing. This would happen even if the poor babe decides to go by his middle name. Good luck, and I’m sorry again.

I’m not sure I’d directly go in with ’Battery is a terrible name’ just yet. Maybe just casually suggest other names? Bradley, Bailey, Brennan, Beckett, Bruno? You could suggest Terry (taken from Battery)?

Obviously if he goes to register him as ’Battery’ then you have a slight problem and might have to be a bit more up front.

I am so sorry for this terrible situation you’re in.

Christopher is my brother’s name, so he doesn’t want to use that as a first name. Thank you guys for the support. We really appreciate it. - Poll Poster

Maybe you could just ask if he holds off making any name decisions until he’s a little more stable.

Maybe a version of Christopher as the first name? Christian, Crispin, Christope, Kristopher, Kit?

A J name after mom? Jensen, Jasper, James, Jonah, Jared, Jerrod, Jenner, Jens?

Jenson (Jen’s son) would be perfect!

Taking your advice, i talked to my brother. I told him to wait until he was in the right mind to name his little boy. Christopher will definitely be the middle name and Jansen is the surname. I think he would appreciate all the suggestions that you guys have given him about names. We will figure this out with the help of you! ______ Christopher Jansen. Thanks for all of your support and kind words - Poll Poster

What about Jensen. Also Jennifer means white or fair, so maybe a boy name that means white. Jenner is also one. A boy name thats mean white are:

Blake: pale/white
Finley/Finlay: little white one
Finn: fair/white
Gavin: white hawk. You can also call him CJ, C for christopher and J for Jennifer. Maybe Camden Jenner nn CJ. Wdyt?

He could spell it Jentzen if he wants it to be more edgy.

Although I personally like the name Jensen/Jenson, i don’t think it would work with the surname Jansen. Thank you though. I will run all of the other suggestions by him. Keep them coming! - Poll Poster
