Ella vs. instead of vs. Emma?

We always talked about naming our little girl Emma, but Emma is such a popular name now. Is Ella a good, less popular alternative?

I love both names, but I do think Ella is a bit less popular. I know one Ella for example, and six Emma’s. I think it really depends on the area where you live though. Both names are lovely. :)

I love Ella! Emma is nice too but way to popular. Ella is perfect.

I would choose Emma!
I actually think Emma is slowing down in use and Ella is on the rise. It’s crazy popular in my area.I know of 3 Ella’s in my tiny town born just in the last year.
(One is Ella Grace and the other two are Ella May so I would say if you do decide to use it at least go for a unique middle name)

I much prefer Emma to Ella, although I think Ella is slightly less popular. How about Emmaline, Emmalyn, Emmanuelle, Emelyn, Emerence, Emmalia etc. With the nickname Emma?

Ella is almost as popular as Emma, plus there are all the Bellas and Stellas being added to the world. If you want something a little unusual, try Edith or Eden (nn Edie) or Esther (nn Essie) or Ethel (nn Effie) or Eugenia (nn Genie).
