Help! vs. Yes vs. No

We really like the name Daisy for our daughter, however, we want her to have a name that would sound more mature for an adult. After doing some research, we learned that Daisy is a nickname for Margaret (a bit of a stretch, I know.) It also just so happens that Margaret is a family name, and we love the name as well. Should we name her Margaret and just give her the nickname Daisy since the two names are related? What do you think? -Sam

I think it’s fine to name her Margaret and use Daisy as a nickname if you want to, but honestly, I would probably just use Daisy, as I think it’s much nicer and I don’t think it’s unprofessional or immature at all, and certainly not compared to some of the names I hear, on here and IRL. Whatever you decide, I think it will be fine. GL.

I adore daisy!! Such odd names for margaret like peggy, meg, greet, marge, maggie. Never heard daisy for it tho. I have a given name that is nothing like the name i have been called since birth and hate it. It was embarrassing growing up when kids called me by my given name instead of my "cute" moniker. Why not margaret as a middle name? I like daisy elizabeth or daisy christine. Best.

I like both ideas. Daisy simply as her full name and Margaret nn Daisy. Seeing as you actually love both names, I’d say go with it. So it’s a bit of a stretch, I’m still not sure how Jack became a nn for John or people decided Peggy is also a nn for Margaret.

I say go with Margaret nn Daisy.

Best of Luck!

Daisy is fine, but I LOVE Margaret!
I think I’d name her Margaret Daisy so she doesn’t have to explain that Daisy is a nickname for Margaret. She can just say "I go by my middle name."

Either way would be fine. I like Daisy on it’s own. But I also like the idea of Margaret with the nickname Daisy, especially since Margaret is a family name.

Margarita (in Spanish) means Daisy so maybe that’s where it comes from? Either way, I like your idea of using Margaret for the name and nn of Daisy because I think Daisy is a cute name on a little girl, but she will want something different on a resume.
