Not a proper given name. LOTS of issues attached to it. I wouldn’t dream of saddling my child with that baggage.

OK, I see you’’ve already decided on it. Seriously, I’d do a search related to the controversy surrounding the name. I would’t do it myself. But at least make sure you make a fully educated decision before you hang this on your son for the rest of his life.

Some Jewish people consider it offensive for people who aren’t descended from certain ancestors to be given that name. Do some research and be sure you want your child to face some of that.

The name Cohen is a very sacred name in the Jewish religion and by naming you Christian child it, you are essentially taking the name in vain.
"The name Cohen is reserved for the priestly caste descended directly from the biblical Aaron. Cohens are accorded certain privileges in the Jewish religion and are subject to certain restrictions: They’re not allowed to marry a widow, a divorcee, or a non-Jew, for instance, which has kept the Cohen bloodline exceptionally pure."
Please name him the Irish "Cohan" instead. It’s pronounced the same and you avoid unintentially insulting several million people and their faith!

Do not name your son Cohen!!! I know you didn’t know what a big can of worms you opened when your husband stumbled upon the name, but believe me, this is a big deal!
It would be highly disrespectful to saddle him with this name. He’d be a walking insult to the Jewish community I know that is not your intention. I agree with the previous poster, name your son Cohan!!!!!
