Nathanielle for vs. A girl vs. Wdyt
My sister and her husband Matt want to use this for their daughter in honor of Matt’s father (obviously Nathaniel). Now, I’m a fan of unique, out there names, but I’ve tried to tell them over and over again that Nathanielle is WAY too out there. They won’t listen. They just want her first name to honor Matt’s dad, and they can’t use his middle name (Archibald on a girl? No.). I have absolutely no idea what to do. All I know is I don’t want my niece to be ridiculed her entire life. PLEASE HELP.
The Top Baby Name is...
I hope I don’t offend anyone but I think it’s terrible. I would put my foot down on this one if I were you.
GOSH NO. This name is awful for a girl, why don’t they name her Natalie, or Natalia? You should show them this poll when everyone is done commenting. They could use Nathania for a middle name?
Nope. I suggested Natalie and every other variant I could possibly think of. They won’t budge.
I agree with the second poster that Natalie gives a nod to the grandfather and is much prettier.
Nathanielle for a middle name? Goodeness, Nathanielle even looks stupid when typed!
She’s not due for another month so hopefully I’ll be able to convince them that Natalie is SO much better. So far it hasn’t worked...I think I might need a miracle smh
Arielle! a combonation of Nathaniel, and Archibald? Or she could just simply do N.A. initials?
Its terrible. I like the idea of Natalie or Natalia. Or if they want to honor him let him pick the name from their list. Or use the argument if they waste Nathaniel now on their daughter they cant very well use the name again for a son down the line. Nothing worse then having a name you like and not being able to use it on the child of the right gender for the name because you wasted it on an earlier child. I know a couple who named a daughter Kylie because they wanted a son named kyle and the next child was a son. Now they were stupid and used the name any way but most arent that thoughtless.
A nice variation to Natalie that sounds a little more like Nathaniel is Nathalia. As for Nathanielle I don’t like it,it doesn’t sound pretty at all. No offense
Poster 7, thanks so much for that suggestion, I hadn’t even thought of that. And to everyone who’s trying not to offend anybody...please. Don’t worry about it. That horrid name is enough of an offense -_-
If they are instant on a horrible name like this at least try to convince them to call her Elle, Ellie, Ella something else... ANYTHING ELSE as a nickname. When shes old enough to legally change her name she can. Theres only bright spot for her. You can always legally change your name when your parents fail to pick something decent. Sadly it sounds like you just might have to accept your beloved little niece will be saddled with a really crummy name.
I must agree with the others this is a bad name. Heres another idea to try on them. As a teacher I’ve found the kids who have the most difficulty learning how to spell their own names are the ones with really long ones. Nathanielle is 11 letters long. She will likely have problems well into grade 2. Her friends will take forever learning it which is a constant source of frustration for some kids because they learned to spell Avas name really fast. THen theres the constant supply teacher irritation. Every time a supply teacher comes in a kid with a 11 letter first name likely wont have their full name on the attendance sheet by the time their surname takes so many spaces. The supply with screw up every time. The kids will laugh, especially if the guess every time it Nathan for a girl, causing her undo humilation. Parents really need to think down the road when they name their kids. I mean shes also going to have to fill that long name in on every piece of paperwork she has to do the rest of her life. Thats an annoyance. Plus people will likely forever mispell it and as a person with a common name who gets hers mispelled all the time it drives me batty. Id hate to have an uncommon name with even more variation. Maybe one of those arguments might help.
Archibald on a girl, no. Nathanielle on a girl, no. It’s ridiculous. There are feminine variants of the name. Natalie, Natalia, or they could even spell it with an h in it, Nathalie, Nathalia, though I think forcing it even that much is too far. No one would EVER consider naming their son Katherine for example, even if it were after a deceased grandparent. People try to justify all kinds of ridiculous names for their child by saying, "It’s a family name," or "It’s in honor of so and so." Think about the child who has to live with your crazy choices!!!
Nathaniel Archibald is a Gossip Girl character.
Nora Abigail. N.A initials, Problem solved.
Ew, ew, please no. NO!
I think Nathalie would be gorgeous, or even Archana for Archibald? (A legitimate name)
Or other "similar-to-Nathaniel" names:
(I don’t love any of them but they’re all far better than Nathanielle...)
Or better yet, why don’t they wait for a boy and then use Nathaniel?
