Truly vs. Darling vs. Merit

We have four children and are looking for an unusual word name for our soon-to-be addition. The three listed are our top 3, followed by Drummer (for a boy), Wolf (boy), Quill (boy), Basil (boy/girl), Wit (boy/girl), and Bay (boy/girl). Other suggestions along these lines are welcome! The favorites from our last poll were True, Bay, Basil, and Wit (I like the spelling Whit as suggested but that takes away from the word). We’ve changed "True" to "Truly." Thank you!

So brutal! The only usable names are Wolf (I guess...) and Basil (cause it’s a name), but really, they are all awful, especially Truly! Truly a terrible choice! Give it some thought, people.

My partner and I have named six children between us. Every name was given a great deal of thought and no one is suffering the way you think they are. Just because something is not for YOU doesn’t mean it’s bad. Perhaps you should give your own prejudices and opinions some thought before pushing them on others.

If you would like to provide your (not asked for) opinion, you should consider giving reasons to back it up so you can potentially be taken seriously. Although, it’s not likely.

Sage and Fern are cute for girls.

What are your other children’s names? It might help.
I like True and Quill for a boy, Merit for either and Bay or Truly for a girl.
I’m not brave enough to use names like these, but I appreciate that they’re nice.

Merit. I also like Truett. Both for boys

For a girl, I think Honor, Reverie, Harbor, Verity, Honey, and Jewel

Sonnet, Poet, Ever, Mercy, and Lake are lovely.

Our other children are Sonnet, Roar, Sparrow, and Noble.

Fern is cute but I think I’d like it more for someone else’s child than mine, you know? Not too big on Sage, for either gender.

Thanks for the help, though!

I do like Truett but it’s too similar to Sonnet and doesn’t meet our word requirement.

I REALLY like the look and thought of Reverie. I just don’t know if I could say it every day for the rest of my life. I’m not as fond of the inevitable Rev nickname.
