How Do vs. YOU Pronounce vs. Peridot??

Hey this is Jessica and someone suggested Peridot on my poll about Periwinkle and I really like it. But do you pronounce it with or without the t sound at the end? Most name websites ive looked at say without but its my birthstone and ive always said it with the t? And could you suggest middle names because I don’t like Nicole or Madison with Peridot! -Jessica. (And could you give single mother advice?)

Are you open to more suggestions?

Yes as long as the nickname Peri can be used (It can be a middle name also).

If I pronounce it Perri-dot will people think its weird? Do you think its also a location thing? I grew up in the south before moving to New York so do you think that had any influence of it? I like Peridot Elyse!

It’s definitely a location thing. Some areas pronounce every letter in a word, others don’t.

Peridot Noelle is kind of cute but shes due late October/early November so I don’t know if I want a Christmas-y name.

I don’t like those suggestions, they look really fake. I like names that are real but really uncommon and color names are a weakness of mine. Peri-Anne is the only one I would even consider.

I’ve always said Pear-uh-doe. I’m from CA and a geologist. But merriam-webster pronunciation puts a hard T on the end, like you do, so I suppose you’re ’safe’ either way! Your daughter may just need to correct people from time to time.

Okay thanks! I think I am going to use Peridot, with the middle name Lucille? I also like Peridot Esme, which do you prefer?

There are obviously two distinct ways in which people pronounce this name, but I think the pronunciation that would be more feminine and beautiful on your daughter is pair-ih-doe.

Depends where you are from, Dot is very beautiful and popular for woman in some places, as is Perri, the pronunciation of Pear ree dot is very feminine and spunky as well. This name truly is just a location based name, its all about where you are from and what you were taught to know. Peridot Lucille is gorgeous! Thumbs up!
