What should vs. I do?
Hey ladies, I’m Riley. I am having a baby boy in like four months. I have his name picked out, but my mom HATES it! This wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but I’m living at her house, she is financially supporting the baby and I, and she is going to be helping me raise him. I really love the name, but I feel like maybe I should choose a name that my mom loves too. I really don’t know what to do. Any advice would be great. Thanks

I’d look for a name you both love.

She had her to chance to name children. This is YOUR baby and while she’s helping you out, she is not his mother and you have the final say.

I didn’t want the poll to be too long. The name is Cadmus Finn. She says Cadmus sounds like someone clearing their throat. And for Finn she asked why I would name my son after fish.

Cadmus does sound a bit off but Finn is a great name. maybe keep the middle name and try and find another first name. in the end though I’ve heard Worse names then Cadmus Finn.

I like Fin, not so much Cadmus but its not horrible. What about Magnus Finnegan? Its similar but she might not object so much. But I agree she may be helping you with him but he isn’t her baby, he’s yours so name him how you see fit.

Cadmus Finn isn’t horrible at all! Perhaps tell her that Finn is a popular name, not only in America but across other countries (notably Germany).
Anyways, I say keep the name. She’ll grow to like it once her grandson is here and she associates it with him.

Eh. I can see not liking Cadmus. It sounds off to me. Finn is a good name. What about Flynn?

If you’re concerned/interested in her opinion, discuss some other names with her and see if the two of you can come to a compromise on a name you both love. If you can’t, then go with the name you love. Like a previous poster said, she had her opportunity to name her children, and now it’s your turn. But, you just never know, maybe by talking through some other names, you’ll find one you love even more than Cadmus. Good luck!

The thing is, she likes pretty trendy names, while I like more underused names but not made up. We picked a girl name together (Sailor), so maybe she was a little mad that I picked out the boy name myself.
She likes names like Kayden/Jayden/Aiden/Braiden and I dislike that whole \"Aiden\" trend. She also likes made up names like Kyler.
I love Cadmus Finn because Cadmus is uncommon, but it\’s an old Greek name, not something I just made up. It also means \"one who excels\" and that\’s important to me because I want him to excel in life and do better for himself than I did for myself. Finn is an English name that is common, but adorable. It means Blond, so that doesn\’t have a significant meaning, but he most likely going to be blond, so it will fit him.

It sounds like you thought this name out a lot and have good solid reason’s for using it. Go for it. your son will be happy to have a name with meaning and not just one of many in his class as he would be if his name was Aiden kayden and such.

Well if you are underage then yeah listen to your mother. Either way if she is covering the bills and costs of life than she is like a second mother, the one that brings home the bacon, she deserves a say.
