How do you vs. Pronounce vs. Genevieve
John-vee-ev with a soft j or Gen-a-veev. I have heard it both ways and personally prefer the the first pronunciation. But I am curious what others think.

Both are correct. The first is the French way, the second the English way. It’s up to you to let people know which you prefer when you introduce your daughter.

In English its pronounced Jenna-veev. in French its pronounce Zahn-vee-ev. Most people who natively speak English will pronounce it Jenna-veev

I think the first is the most authentic. If you live in the US, though, you’ll probably get the second most of the time. As pretty as the first is, I must admit, I usually say it the second way. I would, however, pronounce it whichever way YOU preferred once I heard you say it.

This is my name and I say it like Jen-a-veev. When I went to Montreal, a few people did call me John-vee-ev. Both are technically correct so you can choose whichever you prefer :)

I use the English pronunciation if I am reading it. But would certainly use the French pronunciation if that’s what was introduced.

I live in France for the most part and my niece is named after me. My name is Remaziah Genevieve and it’s Reh-maw-zeye-ah John-ee-veh. My niece is Genevieve Arwen, pronounced Jenna-veev Are-when and she lives in the US. It depends what you like, and how you want to pronounce it. We call her Gen, Gene(Jenny) and Vieve.
