They said it would be offensive due to the religious connection to it. They also used the example of how Cohen could be considered offensive to some

Cohen and Deacon are two completely different concepts.

being a Christian I have no reason to feel offended. Cohen was a name that I had as a guilty pleasure name, because of the Jewish connection I chose not to use it. But if you love it, go ahead use it.
