Sicilia pronounced like vs. Si-chi-lia vs. Si-ci-lia

We love the name Cecilia, but want to honor my husband’s family’s roots (his parents moved to America from Sicily). Do you think we can pronounce Sicilia like Cecilia, or would you pronounce it the italian way? Thanks -Jen

I would pronounce it the original way, although I don’t think a lot of people will do that when they first read it. If you pronounce it incorrectly, you’re not really honoring the family or the place.

If you love the name Cecilia, I’d go with Cecilia. You could go with Sicily as a name, as well. Or, Cecily.

How about Cecily? It’s a lot like Cecilia, but it sounds like Sicily pronounced the English way!
