My husband and I really like the name Hero for out little girl, we are both very into literature and wanted to choose a name that means a lot to us and which is unusual but not trendy or modern. Could you tell us what you think of Hero and also maybe suggest some middle names for us. Thank you

Hero looks so masculine to me.
We all know a hero to be a male and a heroine to be female so I think it gets confusing in lots of ways. I would rethink this one for her sake!

I agree with previous poster. The name looks male, sorry.

No way! Very masculine
posted by guest :: 10 years ago | report
It is masculine, but even for a boy, I think it would be cruel to lump the poor thing with that name. Sorry, but these are my thoughts. You have to put yourself in her position and imagine how school and your life in general would have been with such a silly name. Start introducing yoursels as Hero, for a testdrive and see how people react to it. I’m sorry if this sounds harsh.

Why not use Hira instead? It sounds like Hero but is a genuine girls name!
posted by guest :: 10 years ago | report
Hero looks like a boys name to me. I wouldn\’t use it for a childs name at all. I think you should go with other suggestions on here like Hira (that is very pretty) or Heroine.

I would say no,hero is a Japanese boys name sounds really stupid on a girl

We are considering this name for our daughter too, did you end up calling your daughter this?
posted by Jade :: 9 years ago | report
Hero is actually a girls name. Hero, in Greek Mythology, was a priestess of Aphrodite. It’s also the name of the main female character in Shakespeare’s "Much Ado About Nothing". Just thought those of you who insist it’s a boys name should know the names history.
