Oliver? vs. YES vs. NO

We love the name Oliver for our little boy. However, where we live (UK), Oliver is VERY popular and we are a little concerned about it. Do we choose another name or do we go with what we really love? We can’t think of another name we love more. Thank you- Darren and Kate

I think you should go for Oliver if you really love it that much.

Oliver is one of my favorite boy names (I’m in the US though. If its your all time favorite name then I would use it. You might regret it later. I’ve found that it doesn’t really bother boys as much if they have friends in their class with the same name. When I was in school I had a class with four Joshuas in it. They were all friends and thought it was cool.

However, if you think there might be a name that could measure up to it, and popularity really does bother you, then maybe set this name aside or use it as a middle name.

I’d probably not use Oliver. You’ll begin hearing it so much, you’ll get tired of it yourself.

Just give him a good middle name that he could go by if he wanted too. My cousin had five girls in her first grade with the same name as her so she just started going by her middle name.

You will never regret choosing a name you love! You might regret using a different name. He can always go by a middle name if it bugs him.
