After vs. Jessie Rees

We’d like to name our baby girl after Jessie Joy Rees, a 12-year-old girl who passed away of cancer but changed the world with creating JoyJars for kids fighting cancer. She has inspired me, and influenced me to do what I do today, which is a pediatric oncology nurse. We have two daughters, Grace and Mary, and we don’t love Jessica as a name. We do think Jessa is rather pretty, but is it too trendy as a sister for Grace and Mary? What do you all think? We don’t like Joy as a first name. We love the name Jessie but don’t think that it’s full enough. Thanks for the help!

I prefer Jessa over Jessica or Jessie. You might want to consider Jessamine or Jesslyn as first name options as well. Both will go well with Grace & Mary. You can shorten them to "Jessie" or "Jess" if you wish.
Jessalyn Joy or Jessamine Joy are both beautiful.

We don’t like Jessamine or Jesslyn, they sound like they’re inching towards the trendy side of things here we’d rather not go. Thank you though!

I think Jessie/Jesse stands alone. I like Jessie more than Jessa (which actually sounds shorter than Jessie, so I’m not sure why Jessa counts as a full name but Jessie doesn’t). Jessie Rees gets my vote, instead of Jessa.

I like Jessa or Jessie and think either fits nicely with Grace and Mary. I don’t understand this ’full name’ thing!

If you want an alternative? Jessamae?

Full name as in normally people aren’t called "Mike" or "Joe", it’s Michael and Joseph. We’d like a more formal name than Jessie as to us it sounds like it won’t age wonderfully. Thank you for all the suggestions and opinions.

Jessie was quite popular as a full given name for girls back in the 19th and early 20th century. Since Grace and Mary are also considered "vintage" I think you could get away with just calling her Jessie. Jessie is actually originally the Scottish diminutive of Jean which comes with variants Jeanette and Jane if you like those any better.

I like Jessa and think it’s fine with Grace and Mary.

The thinkbabynames website lists Jess as a variant of Jane so you could go with Jane as her first name and Jessie as a nickname.

They want a formal name in which Jesse doesn’t fit the bill for them, they don’t want to use it .... she has said it over and over. The question is to the poster, have you seen anything you like so far? My advice is to go to babynameaddicts . Com and plug in names beginning with "Jes/Jess" and see what you like. If you still see nothing then look up the meaning of Jessie and find other names with the same meaning. Jessenia and Jessa seem like your best options imo. GL

Thank you PP!! We understand that others may like Jessie as a full name, but we do not want to go with that. We love Jessa, we just wanted opinions mainly if it flowed with Grace and Mary. We weren’t so much looking for a new name
