I’m in the UK too. I know it’s a firm of Margaret pronounced May-mee but I have NEVER heard it used. Ever.
I don’t dislike it. But I think you might find some issues with it. Especially with pronunciation. It also kind of reminds of mammy when I look at it, which is another term for mother or mum in some parts.

I actually do like this name but more so as a nickname. I call my little kitten Mamie sometimes (May-me) because her middle name is Mae. I think it could be an interesting, old fashioned choice. I’m in the U.S.

I’m seeing a lot of names like this lately,names like Nellie and Hattie for example so obviously quite a few people are fans but I strongly dislike them,sorry.I just think they are way too much like nicknames and they also sound like old ladies.
