George vs. as a middle vs. name for a girl?

Before you answer please read my introduction message. I love George Eliot aka Mary Anne Evans. I find the names Mary, Anne and Marian don’t have the immediate connection to the author which I would like. I’m not going to use George as a first name for a girl as that’s just too far for me but for a middle name I find it quite charming. I don’t like Georgia etc either. Do you think George could work as a middle name (only) for a girl? Honest opinions needed please. Thanks

How about Georgia?

In a word, yes. I know a little girl named George-Ann and if it can be a first name it can certainly be a middle. Good luck and god bless!

Its for a middle name, so I say, it doesn’t matter, use George as a middle name if you like it, but for the love of all humanity, don’t get a wild hair, and use it as a first name!!

I like George Eliot too but she only used this pen name to avoid preconceptions about female writers or about various scandals regarding her personal life. Imagine how wonderful it would have been for her to have her own name printed on her own book? We don’t need to adopt male names anymore.

I live in the town where Mary Ann Evans aka George Eliot came from!

And I think it’s a lovely idea!

I agree completely with the 5 poster. The only reason she used the pen name George Eliot is because she probably couldn’t get published under her real name and no one would have read her work if she did manage to be published. I love her work, too, but I ’d rather celebrate who she REALLY was.

I find George to be hideous on a boy, so a girl I can’t even imagine. I just don’t like the sound of it and I feel like it would be one of those middle names that she’s horribly embarrassed to tell anyone about.
