what do vs. you think?

We have several older children, and now we’re adopting our final child, a little girl. She’s three years old, and her name is Janessa. We’re thinking of changing her name to Vanessa Jane or Jane Vanessa. What do you think? Our older children are Joseph Wilder, Logan Elizabeth (Ellie), Joshua Holden, Grayson Eli, Wyatt Jordan, Aidan Christopher, and James Landon. Which do you like better--Vanessa Jane or Jane Vanessa? If you don’t like either, could you please suggest a name that is similar to Janessa? Thanks! ~Katie

I really like Vanessa Jane however I would include her in the decision shes very young but old enough to understand its her name.

Vanessa Jane, but I agree, she’s too old to change it now

^A three-year-old is nowhere near ready to help choose a name. I guarantee she’d demand "Tinkerbell" or "Sprinkles Snowball". I’d definitely use something as close to Janessa as you can (Vanessa Jane is a good one), but I wouldn’t let her have too much say. If only to not have to deal with the tantrums when she isn’t "Sprinkles Snowball".

Vanessa Jane! It sounds better than Jane Vanessa.

And, really, Janessa and Vanessa aren’t all that dissimilar. She’d get used to it quickly, if she ever notices at all. And since she probably hasn’t learned to write yet, she won’t know how to write Janessa, so she’ll only learn Vanessa. Changing your daughter’s name is really not the end of the world, despite what some people on here like to make it out to be.

Hi poster 1 here - I wasn’t saying to not change it of giver her complete freedom or anything as I said she is really young - but try to include her in the process a bit. Like givee her two or three options and let her pick from them just so she feels a part of it. GL!
