Modern... It doesn’t have a history of being used much commonly before recently. It’s becoming trendier now - not very common in the US, but it’s trending up, so it’s possible that it might eventually be.

That was my reasoning too, but then there’s ’For Esme With Love and Squalor’ by JD Salinger, which was written at least 50 years ago. I prefer older, more traditional names so this is really an outlier on my list, but for some reason I love it!

Regardless of any past it may have, Esmé is 100% Twilight now. It’s ugly anyway.

Why does it matter? If you think the name is cute, go for it regardless of what era it’s from...
