Alice nn Lucy? vs. Yes? vs. No?
Does Lucy work as a nickname for Alice? My grandmother has been very influential in my life and I want to name my baby girl after her. My grandmother is still alive though so I don’t want to call her Alice. Help!
The Top Baby Name is...
Alice nn Lucy?
Yes?
No?

Maybe Ali or some other nickname? /: Since Alice nm Lucy wouldn’t make sense since Lucy can’t be pulled from Alice in my opinion. If it were a middle name that would be different, but Alice Lucy doesn’t sound good either.

A nickname can be anything you want! I think it works.

No!
How about Alison? Or you Alice as a middle name?

People, it’s a NICKNAME. Nicknames don’t have to make any sense, it’s just a pet name, please.
I think it’s cute, and if you like it, definitely go for it. Seriously.
I don’t see people complaining about ’Scout’, John nn Jack or Margaret nn Molly. You can’t say Molly has anything at all to do with Margaret, except for the M. And still, it’s widely accepted, because it’s been around for ages.
If everyone always went with the obvious and same nicknames, the world would be very boring. Don’t smother the creativity and joy of others.

If you don’t like the first name Alice, don’t name that. Maybe use Alice as a middle name.

In my opinion, nicknames need to work with the name. So I say no.

It’s a leap, but not totally nonsensical by any means.
That said, I think you’ll have a really hard time getting it to catch on - people will almost certainly opt for Allie or Liss (that’s if they nickname at l)

I think they’re both lovely names! But they have no connection whatsoever! But I think Lucy-Alice would be a cute name!

Not in my opinion.
I love Alice so maybe Alicia will work for you and call her Lissy as a nickname

Thank you, poster 4, for sticking up for me. Poster 5, I DO like the name Alice. I just can’t call her that because my grandmother is still living. I don’t like Ali or Liss. I came up with Lucy because of the L-vowel-c in ALiCe.
