Truth vs. About vs. Caelum?

I am due this Saturday and I am starting to freak out a bit. I posted months ago (Caelum vs Silas if you want to look it up) and recieved the lovely comfirmation that Caelum is the perfect name for my son since both our names would be constellations. I still love the idea of us both being "written in the stars" but when I slipped the name to my best friend she tore it up and said "I feel sorry for him" and laughed! I’m hurt but more focused on finding out the truth. Is it horrid? Does it look like a "younger" choice? It is pronounced Sigh-lum. What are you really thinking? Any other handsome unpopular celestial names not including Leo? Please help!!!-Carina

It’s not horrible, but Caelum doesn’t look like Sigh-lum at all. I thought is was the popular trendy name Callum spelled differently. Good luck

Time to find a new best friend ’cause that’s pretty messed up. Caelum’s not my favorite, but I admit it does have a captivating quality to it. But if you’re worried, what do you think of Aries, Orion, and Rigel? Aries and Orion are both constellations, and Rigel is the brightest star in Orion’s belt. GL!

Should I not use it? I honestly hate trendy mispelt names, do you think that everyone will think I just changed the spelling of Callum (which I don’t even like)? I really don’t know what to think anymore.

Thank you! Aries is definitely in the running! I do know a male Aris, would that be too close? They endings sound completely different.

How do you like Caelan

I wouldn’t have pronounced it Sigh-lum, either. More like Cay-lum to me but that could be my own ignorance and nothing more. I like Silas a lot better.

Yes, I think everyone will think that it is just a misspelled Callum. I agree with the first poster. Otherwise you will be correcting people a lot. But if it is a name you love and it has meaning to you, that should be enough

I think it’s cute, but no one will pronounce it the way you want it to be pronounced. Caelum comes from Latin, so it should really be pronounced Kai-loom, with a hard c at the beginning. Good luck!

I pronounce it Cay-loom

Thank you for the correct latin pronunciation! I actually love Kai-Loom as the pronunciation better than Sigh-lum which I got from another site but I’m guessing people won’t get that right off the bat either? So far it is between Caelum and Aries. Any other suggestions? If not which of the two do you prefer? I really cannot express my gratitude to all of you for helping me so graciously for the second time around.

Like any?

Thank you! My new mini list is
and Draco
Which is best from there? Top 3 anyone?
posted by Poster :: Jan 29, 2014 01:28 PM | report
Well, Ares was a catastrophic god of war in the Greek mythological stories and Draco was an evil kid in Harry Potter. I would pronounce Caelum KAY-luhm.

Draco ended the series as a good guy and actually means dragon so I think that’s cool, just saying. From your list my top 3 are
Caelum with the original latin prn
And Draco or Argo. GL!

If you’re going to pronounce it sigh-lum, as in asylum, I don’t think it’s a good idea. But just from the spelling I would assume it was kay-lum. Some other constellations you might like are Perseus and Orion.

I would not have pronounce it like that at all. Caelan is pronounced KAY-lahn, its a Scottish boys name.
