Maia vs. Mya

We absolutely love the name and spelling of Maia (my-uh)... However family members and extensive research on the Internet are making me second guess the spelling. People want to pronounce and see it at "May-uh". Should we just stick with the generic speeding Mya?

First off, the traditional spelling is actually Maya. Second, don’t doubt yourself! Maia is lovely and those families obviously have never heard of the teen star Maia Mitchell who pronounces her name MY-uh and no one ever has a problem with it. Maia is perfect.

I originally loved Mya but found Maia which can be pronounced my-uh or may-uh. If you tell everyone the pronunciation then it won’t be to big of a deal. She may have to spell her name but now days everyone has too.

When I see maya I see (May-uh). She wants my-uh. Go with Maia.

When I read it I said My-uh but I guess it can be seen both ways. But so can Maya, either way it’s a great name. If I could choose I would go with Maya or Mya, though. I think they generally look better

Yes to Maya or Maia - but Mya looks oddly incomplete.
