Nickname vs. Names

Hi! We are looking for "nickname names", meaning names that are usually nicknames. So far we like Ellie, Evie, and Rosie but we’re not sold on them yet. What are your favorite nicknames for girls? We will not be using a full name for any name, so please just "nickname name" suggestions. Thank you! ~Sage and Mia

We like Lulu, Immy/Immie, Indie, Elsie, Emmy/Emmie/Emmy, and Liv! Lily is nice but it’s super common where we live (there are at least 7 in our small neighborhood)

Frankie isn’t a boys name. It is a nickname for Francesca, Frances etc. It is unisex

Just realized we missed a comment referring to Frankie, sorry! Frankie is most commonly used for boys, we don’t like unisex names either. We aren’t looking for a debate or anything on whether or not a name is a boy name, unisex name, or girl name. We know what we like and that’s really the most important thing when we are naming our child.

I’m partial to Evie (prn eh-vee) because that’s my daughter’s name! I also love Livvy and Tess.
posted by guest :: 10 years ago | report
We don’t want full names, as already stated in the post. We like Hattie!
posted by Poster :: 10 years ago | report
We like Liv (but not so much Livvy)! Pronunciation is one of our issues with Evie, we like both Ee-vee and Eh-vee and both are common pronunciations in our area

What do you think?
Just a note: Liv would not make a good full first name. It’s too abrupt.

We like Josie! We like the sound of Ella and Brynn but they don’t give us that nickname feel that we want.

We aren’t concerned about a name sounding too abrupt, we like the short and almost "to the point" feel, that’s exactly what we want. We don’t want a more full name or anything, we want the shorter nickname feel as a full name
