Made up vs. Names

Hello, i`m curious to see what your opinion is on names that are made up? Some friends of mine recently had a baby and they called him a made up name (i dont want to post it as im afraid they might see it on here...) but anyways the name itself isnt important. I dunno why but i find it odd that someone would call their child a name that doesnt ’’exist’’ and doesnt even have a meaning to it. What do you think... am i the only one who finds this odd?

I think it’s weird too. But for a girl I understand. My mom’s friend named her baby Kesslyn. It doesn’t always work out as well as the parents planned, especially if their newborn is a boy.

It depends how made up the name really is. Maybe it had a meaning to them??

made up names and spellings always bug me. I mean, to each his own I guess. I understand if you want to incorporate more than one family name or whatever and so it ends up being "made up" because then at least it has a meaning. I know a couple who have to children: Aden-J and Ozcar. Aden is pronounced like Aiden. I like that name, but why the -J?? no reason. none at all.

I think it`s the parent`s opinion that counts the most. However, when you come to think of it...it`s the CHILD who has to live with it for the rest of his life. Poor thing...Fradex is indeed odd...but there are other ’’real’’ names out there that are even more troubling. Go figure why you would name your kids somethings so bizarre...

Fradex?
That is weird!
I bet 10 bucks they like to be ’’original’’ don`t they. Haha. Poor lil fellow!!
Do they have a better nn?

I am not sure about their nickname.
About originality, they arent far-fetched kind of people. We are all suprised (my gf`s) that this was the choosen name. I feel sorry for him. I can already imagined him being teased at school.

I really don’t like made up names. They make me think the parents are rather selfish in dooming the child to a lifetime of explanations. IMO, it seems that the parents that give their child an "original" or made up name make this all about them, not their kid. The child has to grow up with the teasing, not the parents. I guarantee the kid changes his name once he’s 18.

Mebbe I’m weird but I don’t think that it’s too TOO strange. He can be call Dex for short.

It’s not about whether or not the name is "made up." All names where made up at one point...whether they came from words or combinations of words or names or whatever. It’s all about how it sounds. If you make up a name and think it sounds good be considerate of the child that is to carry the name... try it out on some people--don’t introduce it as a made up name as people tend to be more judgmental.

As far as other people’s made up names go....i’ll agree with whoever said to each his own. The kid may even grow up to like it.
