Hank vs. .... ...

I absolutely love the name Hank for my baby boy. His dad is fine with it too. Everyone I tell laughs and thinks I’m joking. When they realize I’m not joking at Hank, they tell me I’m crazy and ask why I even like the name. Is Hank really that bad or weird? I think it’s a cute, strong, classic name for my baby boy. No, I don’t want to name him Henry and just call him Hank, that’s pointless to me. I hate names with nicknames, I want to name him what he will be called 100% of the time. He also won’t have a middle name, what’s the point, no one uses middle names anyways!

I don’t think it’s that bad, but I think he should definitely have a more professional name for a job application. I don’t see a "hank" as a business man. I would name him Henry, sorry.

There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just a name you don’t see often on little kids anymore. Most Hanks I know of are in their 40s or older

If you like it then go for it! I honestly don’t like the name, but it is your child, so name him what you like.

It’s just not a very professional sounding name as poster 1 said. I agree re nicknames though, no point in naming him Henry only to call him Hank.

Use it if you want, but, I still don’t like it, and, above all, give the kid a middle name. Sure, you really never use them, but I love my kids having a middle name. That’s where you can just have fun with any old name you like, or honor a family member, or whatever. GL.

Not a fan of Hank. What about Charlie?

Middle names are used to tell the difference between people who have the same first and last name. To say they aren’t used is silly. It to better identify a person!

I would give him a middle name so when he is an adult he can choose to go by that if he doesn’t feel Hank is professional enough. Hank is def a classic go for it!

I don’t like Hank, sorry. I just find it unattractive. I, kind of, agree with you on the middle name. I rarely ever use it. Mostly just to fill out forms and stuff. I think it’s just more of an identification thing or if you want to honor a special one. I know you mentioned you don’t want to use Henry and call him Hank and I agree with you on that. I have a suggestion- I’m not sure if you’ll like it but I say anyway. You could also use a different first name (maybe a family name) and use Hank as the middle name- but call him Hank. I know quite a few people go by their middle names. Celebrity Guiliana Rancic named her son Edward Duke but always calls him Duke.

I like it. It’s handsome, and makes me think of time when men were actually chivalrous.
I would suggest giving him a middle name, though. It gives him a full-bodied name.

Hank Thomas
Hank Alistair
Hank Ulysses
Hank Oliver
Hank Atticus

Something like that would be very handsome and distinctive.
