We have a 3 year old daughter named Gemma, and are expecting another daughter next month. We have decided on the name Ella, but a few people have commented that Gemma and Ella sound too similar. WDYT?

Both names are lovely but I do think they’re a little too close. Something like Elsa would be nice and just different enough to make it less confusing.

I would go with Ellie instead as having both short names ending in ’a’ is a bit too rhymey.

They do sound similar, but I don’t think that’s a reason to not use a name you like. I think them sounding alike is better than sounding like they’re from different sides of the world.
