Agnieszka vs. Agnes
Should we go with the traditional Agnieszka or with the English Agnes? We know Agnieszka might be hard for people to spell, but the nickname is pronounced AHN-yes, not AG-ness. If we spell it Agnes it would still be pronounced the same way. What do you think? Thanks!

Go with the traditional name. I really don’t like when people Anglicize perfectly lovely names. My classroom is full of multicultural names and they’re what make the kids unique.

Either way you won’t get the nickname. How about spelling it Anyes or something phonetic? How about Anya? Prn. Awn ya. Close enough?

If it’s Agnieszka in the country you origin from I’d say go with that and keep the connection to your roots.

I love the AHN-yes pronunciation. Agnes seems easier on the surface, but would likely be pronounced AG-ness all the time. Maybe the first choice would be best. At least most people would probably have to ask instead of just assuming, wrongly, that they know how it’s pronounced and getting it wrong.
