HUGE Problem vs. Please Help

I have a little girl, Samantha Louise who is 5. I recently found out that I’m having a little boy. I loved the nickname Sam so I called my little girl Samantha, but I liked Sam on a boy. So now I have my boy, can I call him Samuel or Samson? And what nickname would I use? Or do I change Samantha’s nickname so I can use Sam for my little boy? Please help. HUGE problem.

In my opinion you can’t do any of the options you gave. Samuel/Samson are off limits due to the similarity with Samantha. You can’t use Sam as his nickname if Samantha’s nickname is already Sam and it’s not a great idea to want to change Samantha’s name now.

Only option you have is to go back to the drawing board and find a similar name you like and can use, or use Samuel/Samson as a middle name.

I said change her nickname not her name. Thank you for your response.

If your child already has the nickname Sam and response to it, you can not change it. Sorry but very selfish of you.

I think that you can get away with calling your son Samuel/Samson, but give him a different nickname. I think that it’s wrong to change Samantha’s nickname just because you didn’t get the Samuel, you wanted the first time around.

I suggest finding another name for your son since your daughter’s name is already Samantha. Suggestions:
William
Benjamin
Daniel
Andrew
Levi
Wesley
Jude
Oliver
Nathaniel
Elijah
Matthew
Tyler
Julian
Zachary
Sebastian
Aaron
Leo

I would not change Samantha’s nickname or name your boy anything too similar because it could make Samantha jealous or make her feel replaced!!

I would suggest using Samuel as a middle name for your son and maybe nn him Sam and other nn’s you could use for your daughter are Ann/Annie, Amy, Antha

Instead of Samuel would it be alright if I called him Emmanuel?

Samantha - nn Samie, Samie Lou
Samuel/Samson (I like Samuel more) - nn Sam

Is that ok?

That could work.

I personally wouldn’t do it because I think they are too close but if you really, really love it I think the only option you could get away with is Samson nicknamed Sonny so that Samantha’s nickname doesn’t need to change.

I would never give my children names where if I called one both would have a chance of answering and not knowing who I’m talking to/about. Samantha and Samuel/Samson are way to close. Just because you didn’t get your boy Sam the first time doesn’t mean you should try for it this time. Find a different name.

I like that too!!

Honestly, it is an awful idea. Use something completely different.

Maybe it is just me, but I don’t see how you can’t read Samantha and Samuel side by side for siblings and think wow that is just a bad idea. Or oh no, I am creating this horrible pattern where all my children will need "Sam" names.

Just find a different boy name altogether. You’ve never had a boy, so this one should be an easy find. What you want to do is like me having an Elijah and Eli. Totally ridiculous. its not a huge problem, you’re just being lazy. Your daughter is already Sam. Be happy, and find your son a different name.

If you like Samuel that much, use it as a different name. Just know, that you will not be able to continue any Sam theme in any way with future kids, cause Samantha/Samson/Samuel are pretty much the only Sam names that there are...
Nathan
Jonathan
Michael
Elijah
Asher
Simon
Joshua
Kevin
Gavin
Evan
Ethan
Isaac...love this one.
Andrew
Dane...love this one too.
Hunter...ADORABLE
there are seriously no other boy names you can wrap your head around? You should buy yourself a baby name book, sit down with it, get a notebook, start at the ’A’ section for boys, and literally, go through EVERY name till you get to the last name at ’Z’, say every name aloud, and write down the ones you like the best. DO NOT WRITE THEM DOWN IF YOU DO NOT LOVE THEM. that is one big rule. From the list you create, begin eliminating. You simply should not use any other Sam name for a first name. It would be unfair to your daughter you have now.

meant to say, ’if you love Samuel so much, use it as a middle name’. my bad.

You can’t have Samantha and Samuel oh my good gracious! I think you should just chose a different name for a boy.

It’s not that much of a huge problem just choose another name for a boy! Why can’t you just be happy with Samantha and Sam for a nickname. You can’t change her nickname now! And just think about it, having your children called Samantha and Samuel or Samson that’s just terrible.

I think Sebastian is a nice name!

Definitely do not name your son anything with the word "Sam" in it as it would be far too similar to Samantha’s name, regardless of her nickname. What’s done is done, move on and find another boy name you like and just be happy with your little girl Sam.
